(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte has approved a national broadband program, and is poised to sign an executive order prohibiting smoking in public places on Tuesday.
In a Facebook post, Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol said the President made the approval for the national broadband program on Monday, during the 13th Cabinet meeting in Malacañang.
He said during the meeting, Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Rodolfo Salalima made a presentation for the program in front of Duterte, who “emphasized the need for faster communications in the country.”
Duterte earlier said that he would like DICT to “develop a national broadband plan to accelerate the deployment of fiber optics cables and wireless technologies to improve Internet speed.”
Piñol also said the President was poised to sign an executive order implementing the Department of Health’s smoking ban version.
The DOH’s draft is based on the smoking ban being implemented in Davao.
If there are no changes in the draft, once approved, smoking will be prohibited in public places.
