(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday commended the Department of Agriculture for its “immediate response” to the bird flu outbreak.
In his speech on National Heroes Day in Pampanga, Duterte also commended the “solidarity” of the province and of Nueva Ecija, where the bird flu outbreak was reported.
“The efforts you do (are not in vain). They are part of the food chain,” he said.
He said the “goal” was to help the poultry industry back on its feet so it can contribute to the country’s economy.
He noted that he would also look for ways to give more money to the affected poultry owners, who received P80 for each of the chickens culled from the agriculture department to ensure that bird flu would not spread.
“Tanungin ko si Andrea (Domingo) ng (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation) kung meron pang kaya na idagdag,” he said.
He also urged the public to continue supporting Nueva Ecija and Pampanga poultry products, noting that they are “safe for consumption.”
“I assure you that the government is taking efforts to stanp out the outbreak,” he said.
