President Duterte congratulates newly-elected French President

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, May 8 congratulated the newly elected President of France, Emmanuel Macron, after winning the French presidential election.

In a statement by Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said that President Duterte extended his congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his election as President of France.

Abella said that France is one of the biggest trading partners of the Philippines, and the government is looking forward to boost its relations with the incoming Macron administration.

“France is one of the biggest trading partners of the Philippines in the European Union (EU), and we look forward to working with the incoming Macron administration to enhance PH-FR bilateral relations,” Abella said.

Macron, a centrist and former economy minister won the French Presidential election on Sunday, defeating his rival Marine Le Pen.

Macron, 39, has become the youngest president in France’s modern history.
