(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte has a reason for skipping the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on Monday, May 14.
“Purely political. Lahat yung tumakbo kaibigan ko. Almost all were my supporters in the last election,” a dzbb radio report quoted him as saying.
According to Duterte, “they would never believe that nagboto ako only sa kanila.”
“Sa tingin ko the better option would really be to skip the voting. Ayaw ko magduda sila,” he said.
The President was supposed to vote at the Daniel Aguinaldo National High School in Barangay Matina, Davao, where he cast his ballot in the 2016 elections.
Earlier in the day, Davao Mayor Sara Duterte cast her ballot in the same school.
The Commission on Elections has said there was no failure of elections in any of the 42,000 barangays in the country so far.
The Philippine National Police said the conduct of the elections was “peaceful and orderly.”
