(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed a variety of issues pertaining to trade and investment, and defense and security, an official said on Thursday.
In a tweet, India Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said the two leaders also discussed education and people-to-people cooperation in their bilateral meeting at Hyderabad House.
In a tweet on Thursday, Modi said he was “delighted” to meet the Philippine President.
“The vigor and momentum in India-Philippines ties augur well for our nations and the Indo-Pacific region,” he said.
According to Kumar, the Philippines and India signed an agreement “to facilitate investment” during the meeting.
The Palace said in a release that the agreement was signed between the Board of Investments and Invest India.
The Philippines was represented by Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez while India was represented by Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Preeti Saran.
Duterte arrived at the New Delhi International Airport at 5:35 p.m. (8:05 p.m. Manila time) on Wednesday.
Upon his arrival, he met India Minister of State for Higher Education Dr. Satya Pal Singh.
Duterte is in India to attend the India-Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit, and to celebrate India’s Republic Day.
