(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on May 8 signed Executive Order No. 53 which aimed to create a Boracay Inter-agency Task Force for the rehabilitation of the island.
The President designated Secretary Roy Cimatu as the chairperson of the task force.
In the six-page order, the President ordered “creating a Boracay inter-agency task force providing for its powers and functions and those of member-agencies thereof, and other measures to reverse the degradation of Boracay island.”
The order was made two weeks after the closure of Boracay to give way to a six-month clean-up and rehabilitation work.
Meanwhile, the President also issued Executive Order No. 52 creating the Program Management Office for Resiliency of the greater Metro Manila area in case of a massive earthquake.
This EO aims to ensure that all government efforts in the preparation for a massive earthquake are well coordinated.
Aside from this, the President also issued Executive Order 54 which raises the benefits of public and private sectors.
In the EO signed on May 8, Duterte said the State “affirms labor as a primary social economic force” and “undertakes to protect the rights of workers and promote their welfare.”
In his order, the President said there was a “need to continually improve benefits under the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP) to make them more responsive to the welfare and development needs of occupationally disabled workers.”
The President also signed EO No. 55 which creates a steering committee that would organize all commemorative events in the 500th anniversary of the celebration of the arrival of Magellan in the Philippines.
