Says he will raise the need for an ASEAN “platform for terrorism, problems of law and order”
(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday said he would raise the need to come up with a platform to deal with terrorism, and problems of law and order to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations bloc.
Duterte made the statement in a speech prior to his departure for a three-day visit to India, where the India-ASEAN summit is slated to be held.
“The reason I’m going is that we’re OK sa ASEAN but it’s all trade and commerce and everything else under the sun. But you do not have the platform for terrorism and problems of law and order. We have to come up with a platform on how to deal with terrorism,” Duterte said at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
He said the Sulu Sea, Celebes Sea and the Molucca Sea were “vacant,” except for Indonesia that was “active there.”
“Sabihin ko na kung ganito lang naman, what’s the use of meeting just once a year if we can’t accomplish anything because ang waters natin are getting to be dangerous,” he said.
In his opinion, he said a “hardline policy” was ideal.
He said there was a need to “blow them up in the high seas.”
“Sirain mo, kanyunin mo. Otherwise we’ll be at the mercy of criminals,” he said.
Duterte will be in New Delhi from January 24 to 26 for summit and India’s Republic Day celebration.
All 10 heads of state of the ASEAN are invited to the second event.
