(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte met with the Overseas Filipino Worker who was allegedly scalded by her employer in Saudi Arabia in 2014 on Saturday, April 14.
In a social media post, Special Assistant to the President Bong Go said Duterte was happy Pahima Alagasi was able to return to the country after her 4-year ordeal.
Alagasi, who arrived in the Philippines on Friday, April 13, had to be rushed to the hospital after the incident which left her with burns in the back, neck and thighs.
She escaped from the hospital and went to a shelter run by the Philippine Embassy, where she stayed for years because of the legal battle between her and her employer, who filed a slander case against her.
Alagasi filed a maltreatment case against her employer but this was dismissed.
It was the Saudi prince Naif who approved Alagasi’s exit from the country, after Duterte sought his assistance during his visit to Malacñang on March 19.
“Patuloy po nating tutulungan ang mga kababayan natin in any way we can assist them, be it a legal matter or be it labor or employer-related,” Go said.
