President Duterte says Mabilog’s house “like a palace”; says Iloilo mayor to be subjected to lifestyle check

This picture of Iloilo Mayor Jed Mabilog’s “White House” began circulating online after the mayor was tagged in President Rodrigo Duterte’s narcolist. The three-story structure sits on the bank of the scenic Iloilo River in Barangay Tap-oc in Molo District.

(Eagle News) — Like a palace.

This was how President Rodrigo Duterte described the house of Iloilo Mayor Jed Mabilog, whom he announced would be subjected to a lifestyle check.

“His house is like a palace. Anak siguro ito ng mayamang mayaman,” he said in a speech before newly promoted police officials on Wednesday.

According to Duterte, he has asked the National Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Internal Revenue to look into the lifestyle and properties of the mayor.

This was after Duterte announced that Mabilog had  “sent word” that he wanted to talk to the President.

Duterte’s announcement came a day after he assigned Chief Insp. Jovie Espenido to head the police force in Iloilo, which he called the “bedrock” of drugs in the Visayas.

Espenido led the raid that saw Ozamiz Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog killed in July.

Parojinog was allegedly engaged in illegal drug activities.

Espenido was also the police chief when Albuera, Leyte Rolando Espinosa–who faced drug-related charges–was killed during a raid in his cell in the province last year.
