President Duterte slams ICC, Rome Statute

Says he will convince other countries to pull out from tribunal

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday slammed the Rome Statute that establishes the International Criminal Court, and the tribunal, noting that he would convince other countries to “get out” of the same.

“The treaty is bull(s**t),” Duterte said in his speech during the graduation of the Philippine Military Academy Alab Tala Class of 2018.

According to the President, the ICC was European Union-sponsored, and interfered in “all problems.”

“Itong mga ‘to nung pumunta sila Africa pinagpapatay nila ‘yung mga Arabs, lahat na… It is really an atonement for their sins, tapos ang hinahabol nila either itim..,” he said.

“Bastos‘ yan” he added.

The President cited as basis for the country’s withdrawal the “baseless, unprecedented and outrageous attacks” against him and his administration by the ICC.

This came after the ICC announced the conduct of a preliminary examination on the communication filed by lawyer Jude Sabio against Duterte and other officials over what he said were the thousands killed in the government’s drug war.

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and Rep. Gary Alejano also filed a supplemental complaint over the same.
