MANILA, Philippines (Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte said he would wage the illegal drugs war until his last day because of the complexity of the illegal drugs operations, and how widespread and deeply entrenched the problem is.
In a late night press conference at the Malacanang Palace on January 29, the President explained the need to prolong the government’s war on drugs until the end of his six-year term.
As part of Duterte’s presidential campaign, he promised to suppress the illegal drugs problem in the country within six months from the assumption of his office.
The President said he was a mayor of Davao before he became President, and he did not realize how difficult, wide-ranging and complex the illegal drug problem really was until he assumed the presidency.
