(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday, May 19, turned over to the Philippine National Police the two policewomen released by members of the Abu Sayyaf who abducted them in Sulu on April 29.
Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, PNP spokesperson, said the turn-over of P02 Benierose Alvarez and P01 Dinah Gumahad to PNP Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde took place at 3:30 p.m. in Davao.
According to the PNP, the two had been released to the Moro National Liberation Front in Barangay Buanza, Indanan.
No ransom was paid, Bulalacao said.
According to the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, joining the President during the presentation were Special Assistant to the President Bong Go, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza, Joint Task Force Sulu Commander Brigadier General Cirilito Sobejana, Moro National Liberation Front Chairman Nur Misuari and his wife Tarhata.
Earlier, Albayalde said Alvarez and Gumahad, who had just come from Camp Teodulfo Bautista when their tricycle was waylaid by the suspects, may have been released because of the pressure being put by the military and the police on the group.
