(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte assured residents of quake-hit Ormoc, Leyte the government was there to help them get back on their feet, as he expressed satisfaction over government relief efforts there.
“Narito kami kasi tutulong kami sa inyo. Meron nang programa ang gobyerno kung paano ang gagawin sa mga tulong na dumating,” he said in a brief interview with Palace communications office Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.
According to the President, the government would prioritize getting electricity back in the area.
Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez has said they were told they would have electricity by August.
Duterte said he was generally satisfied with how different agencies were working to help Ormoc, one of the most affected by a series of earthquakes in the Visayas.
The President however apologized if there was anything lacking.
“Si Governor (Leopoldo) Petilla, narinig naman nya kung ano ang aming plano para sa inyo. Gagawin talaga namin yan,” he said in the interview.
