Says aim is to sustain growth rate at 7 percent, to bring down poverty incidence rate to 14 percent by 2022
(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday, May 5, said there was a need to “put our house in order,” vowing to be “harsh” against those who prevented the country from achieving this goal.
According to the President, who spoke in closing ceremonies of the Asian Development Bank Annual Meeting in Mandaluyong, he was aspiring to sustain a growth rate of 7 percent or better, and to bring down the poverty incidence rate to 14 percent by 2022.
For this, he said “we need to fix our transportation system, we have to stop corruption. we shall continue our campaign against illegal drugs within the limits the law allows.”
He said he would also continue its Build, Build, Build program, and would “link” the country’s islands to continue to encourage economic development.
He said he would also invest in Mindanao.
“We will not buckle in face of threats of militants and terrorist. We are fully aware that when the civil order weakens progress will no longer be possible,” he added.
To achieve these goals, the President also emphasized the role of the ADB, which he hoped would lend the country more money.
“Can you lend me more?” he asked, to laughter from the crowd.
