President Duterte’s foreign trips, a big help to the country’s economy – Sec. Andanar

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said that the frequent trips abroad of President Rodrigo Duterte has brought home large investments.

Andanar said that just under a year in office, President Duterte already brought in about $35 billion worth of investments, as well as the accompanying good relations with other countries.

“Ang mahalaga po doon sa biyahe ng Pangulo na halos umabot tig-P380 million doon sa isang pahayagan ay yung balik ho, sa kada piso na ginagasta ng gobyerno isang libong piso po ang bumabalik. Baka hindi pa natin nabibilang dyan yung hindi ma-valuate na relationship, yung relasyon na na-build mo, nagawa mo dahil sa byahe na iyon,” Andanar said.

A media report said that President Duterte’s travel expenses have amounted to over Php 380 million  for his foreign trips, excluding his trip to Cambodia, Hong Kong, China and Russia.

Andanar noted that during the President’s visit to China, Duterte was able to bring in $24 billion worth of investments. He brought in another $11 billion from his visit to Japan, and another $1.9 billion from his visit to Qatar.

“So, the reports coming out in newspapers that the president is the most traveled president in his first year here in the Philippines are true,” Andanar said.

“But it is also true that as the president who is the most traveled during his first year, he is also the one who got the most investments from other countries. That is also true,” he added.
