QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News Service, June 3) – More popularly known by its initials – QC – this city is the most populous in the Philippines. It was named after President Manuel L. Quezon, who made it the capital of the Philippines from 1948 to 1976.
Many government offices, most well-known of which is the Batasan Pambansa, seat of the House of Representatives is located in Quezon City, a legacy from the time when it served as the nation’s capital.
There are many popular sites to visit in Quezon City, but probably the most iconic is the Quezon Memorial Circle, which is visible from miles around.
Both a national park and a national shrine, the Quezon Memorial Circle is located inside a huge traffic circle, bound by the Elliptical Road. This is famous site for the city’s residents to hang out and enjoy a weekend afternoon.
Quezon City is also known as the “City of Stars”, as it is home to most of the major broadcasting networks in the country. As such, it is no surprise that the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation or Mowelfund is located here.
It was founded by Manila Mayor and former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada for the welfare of workers in the Philippine movie industry.
A visit to Mowelfund is a treat for movie buffs as it allows one to relive the glory days of Philippine cinema, with its exhibits showing historical film memorabilia.
