Re-supply mission in Spratly to proceed upon completion of repairs of damaged PN ship

MANILA, Philippines — The resupply mission to Philippine-held features in the Spratly Islands will proceed once damage to the BRP Laguna (lt-501) is repaired.

This was stressed by Philippine Navy Spokesperson Colonel Edgard Arevalo in an interview. Arevalo said that this is likely as damage to the logistics vessel is not that severe.

And even if the damage cannot be repaired immediately, he said the Philippine Navy has other logistics ships in its inventory capable of doing the mission.

He declined to give timelines for BRP Laguna’s repair. The BRP Laguna left Puerto Princesa, Palawan last February 4 for its resupply mission.

It sailed first to Rizal detachment (commodore reef) and arrived there on February 6. However, due to bad weather conditions in the area, BRP Laguna stayed for two days near Rizal detachment.
