ASAKURA CITY, Japan (Reuters) — Heavy rain continued to batter southwestern Japan on Friday morning (July 7), as local residents and firefighters continued the search for survivors while cleaning up debris.

The heavy rain since earlier this week has caused three deaths and 100,000 evacuation orders after roads were inundated.

The weather agency downgraded a special warning issued on Wednesday (July 5) to Fukuoka and neighboring Oita Prefecture to a regular alert, but heavy rain was continuing to fall on Friday.
