MANILA, Philippines (Eagle News) — The remains of the three out of four missing crew members of the Maersk Line shipping vessel after a fire broke out in the Arabian Sea have been found inside the ship.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce that the human remains of three of the four missing crew members after the fire aboard Maersk Honam have been found on board the vessel,” the company said in a statement.
On March 6, the Maersk Line shipping vessel caught fire some 900 nautical miles southeast of Salalah, Oman. Four of its crew members were reported missing after the incident.
The two Filipino crew members were identified as Engine Cadet John Rey Regaso and Engine Cadet Janrey Genovatin, both from Iloilo City.
The shipping company said that the remains of the victims were found in the bottom part of the ship.
In its statement released from their website, Chief Operating Officer Søren Toft extended their condolences to the families of the Filipino victims, assuring them that would be given financial support.
“Our most heartfelt condolences go out to families of our deceased colleagues. We share their sorrow and do our outmost to support them in this devastating time,” Toft said.
