Robredo refutes Albayalde’s claim on Naga City crime ranking

(Eagle News)–Vice President Leni Robredo has refuted Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde’s claim Naga City ranked fifth in the list of cities outside Metro Manila with the highest crime rate  in the country.

In a Tweet, Robredo said in truth, the city  once led by her late husband, Jesse, ranked 34th in terms of murders committed; 24th to 26th in terms of homicide cases committed; 29th in terms of rape cases; 11th in terms of robbery incidents; and 6th in terms of theft incidents.

Albayalde issued the statement after refuting reports he denied President Rodrigo Duterte’s statement Naga was a shabu hotbed.

The Naga City council has decried the President’s pronouncement, and has said it would issue a resolution of indignation over the tag.

“If (Robredo) is the target, she is ready, but [Naga] should not be dragged into this because many people have put their stake here, many people have benefitted from the efficient administration of the city,” Robredo’s lawyer Barry Gutierrez said.
