Robredo to PET: Direct Marcos’ camp to identify people aware of use of “banned item” in recount venue

(Eagle News) — The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo has asked the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, to order the camp of former Senator Bongbong Marcos to reveal the names of those who supposedly knew about the use of plastic magnifying lens, a supposedly banned item, inside the manual recount venue.

In an urgent ex-parte motion filed on Thursday, July 5, Robredo lawyer Romulo Macalintal  said Vic Rodriguez, Marcos’ spokesperson, should reveal the names of those who knew about what  Nestor Borromeo, a revisor for the Marcos camp, did on June 14.

A revisor is a person tasked to recount the contested ballots in the recount.

In asking the PET, Macalintal noted Rodriguez’s statement the people “on the revision floor were well aware that the plastic child’s magnifier was being used and never complained.”

Rodriguez issued the statement in response to a separate manifestation of grave concern filed by Robredo’s camp after the June 14 incident.

“Why should they? Some revisors wear eyeglasses so they can see better,” Rodriguez said.

According to Macalintal, these persons who knew were “complicit” in the allegedly prohibited act.

“Atty. Rodriguez, a lawyer and an officer of the court, has a responsibility to guide the Honorable Tribunal in determining the truth,” he said.
