(REUTERS) — “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” won another weekend at the North American box office from Friday (January 6) through Sunday (January 8) bringing in $22 million at 4,175 locations, adding to its global haul of 807 million dollars.
The debut of “Hidden Figures,” almost took the top spot with $21.8 million at 2,471 sites. The story of three African-American women working on the NASA mission to send John Glenn into space has generated Oscar buzz.
Animated film “Sing” locked the third spot with 19 million at 3,955 theaters.
Also new in theaters this weekend was “Underworld: Blood Wars.” The film stars Kate Beckinsale in the fifth installment of the vampire franchise. The movie brought in 13.1 million at 3,070 locations.
Modern day musical, “La La Land” rounded out the top five with 10 million at 1,515 for a total of 51 million since its December 9th release.
