MANILA, Philippines (Eagle News) — Convicted killer Rolito Go has asked for the forgiveness of the Maguan Family for killing their 25 year-old then son, Eldon Maguan in a road altercation on 1991, saying it was just an accident, and a mistake he had regretted since.

Rolito Go shot dead Eldon, who was an engineering student at De La Salle University (DLSU) on July 2, 1991, when their vehicles nearly bumped each other while travelling along Wilson St. in San Juan. Go went out of his car and walked towards Maguan and shot him inside his car. He boarded his car and left the crime scene immediately, without knowing that a security guard from a nearby restaurant saw everything and was able to take down the plate number of Go’s vehicle.

Go was sentenced to life imprisonment at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) at Muntinlupa City and was jailed for 20 years.

The Supreme Court (SC), on Friday (December 16) has ordered his release from the NBP. The SC adopted the trial court’s position that Go’s sentence, which expires on Jan. 31, 2022, should have expired on Aug.  21, 2013 upon deduction of lawful and proper allowances for good conduct, colonist status and preventive imprisonment.

According to Maguan’s Family Lawyer, they already accepted the highest court’s decision to release Go because they believe he already suffered from his two decades of imprisonment. They also accepted that it was just an accident.

Yung pagkakamali ko noon, sana mapatawad na ako ng mga tao. Sana itong natitirang panahon ko ay makasama ko ang pamilya ko at makapamuhay nang maayos,” said a statement from Rolito Go, who is now suffering from Stage 4 colon cancer.
