Roque: President Duterte to certify BBL as urgent

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte will certify as urgent the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law “anytime soon.”

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the comment a day after Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said they may ask the chief executive to issue the certification on House Bill 6475 to ensure the measure’s speedy passage.

HB 6475 consolidates all other BBL proposals.

“I cannot absolutely guarantee that the version of the House will be certified because I haven’t seen the text. But if it’s in conformity with what was agreed upon, then there should be no problem, the president will certify it,” Roque said.

Alvarez said they were slated to meet with members of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission on Tuesday, May 22, so the issues of lawmakers on the bill, which grants the Bangsamoro greater autonomy, may be threshed out.

As it is though, Alvarez expressed confidence the measure would be approved by May 30.
