(Eagle News) — Malacañang said that the dismissal of drug charges against Kerwin Espinosa, Peter Lim, Peter Go and others is not yet final and will still be reviewed.
“Hindi pa po tapos ang boksing laban kay Peter Lim at Kerwin Espinosa at sisiguraduhin nating tama ang naging desisyon ng ating mga public prosecutors,” Roque said in a news conference in Malacañang.
The statement was made after the Department of Justice panel of prosecutors recently recommended to dismiss the drug charges against alleged drug lords Espinosa and Lim.
The decision was made in December 2017, but was only reported to the media on Monday, March 12.
Roque then assured the public that the dismissal of the charges can still be reviewed by Justice Sectetary Vitaliano Aguirre II and that additional evidence will be submitted if needed to reverse the decision.
“We would like to assure the public that the dismissal is far from being final. It is in fact subject to automatic review by Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre,” Roque said.
“If upon review, the DOJ finds reasons to reverse the dismissal, then it will be reversed. If however, it is necessary to file additional evidence, we will prompt police authorities to do so. We will not allow a big fish to go away if there is evidence to go after him,” he added.
He also said that the government will not just let go of these cases.
“Hindi pa tapos ang usaping ito. Hindi pwede na ang isang malaking isda ay hindi mapaparusahan kung may malaking ebidensya,” he said.
