(Eagle News)–Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque greeted Senator Leila de Lima a “happy anniversary” as she marks her first year in detention in Camp Crame.
In a statement, Roque said the senator’s “incarceration shows that the criminal justice system in the Philippines is alive, effective and working.”
“Senator De Lima has been detained because of drug charges. She is the mother of all drug lords by allowing the illegal drug trade to proliferate inside the National Bilibid Prison when she was the Department of Justice Secretary,” Roque said.
He added everyone should refrain from “influencing the outcome of her case and just let the legal process proceed accordingly.”
De Lima is in detention on drug-related cases filed in connection with her alleged role in the illegal drug trade in the New Bilibid Prison when she was justice secretary.
She has been detained in Camp Crame since Feb. 24, 2017.
