Ruby further weakens into a tropical depression

(Eagle News Service) — “Ruby” has further weakened into a tropical depression, after making landfall in Batangas, and is now heading towards Lubang island.

As of 4 a.m., Ruby, with international name Hagupit, was estimated at 80 kilometers southwest of Ambulong, Tanauan City, Batangas.

Presenty, tropical depression Ruby only has maximum sustained winds of 60 kilometers per hour near the center.  When typhoon Ruby first made landfall in Dolores, Eastern Samar on Saturday, its maximum sustained winds was 195 kph near the center.

Public storm warning signal  number one is now hoisted over Metro Manila, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro and Lubang Island.

The weakened Ruby has also decreased in size, and is now only 300 kilometers in diameter.  The estimated rainfall amount is from five to fifteen millimeters per hour.

Ruby is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Wednesday evening.
