SC upholds constitutionality of discount for senior citizens and PWDs for medicine purchases

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the legality of giving 20% discount for senior citizens and persons with disability (PWDs) for their medicine purchases.

Several drug companies want to have the provisions declared unconstitutional, saying the senior citizens’ discounts for medicines had affected their profits.

But the high court did not rule in their favor, and declared Section 4a of Republic Act (RA) 9257 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 and Section 32 of RA 9442 or the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons as constitutional.
