Cubao, Quezon City – Gilas Pilipinas remains unblemished in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) after giving Thailand a 55-point blowout, 108-53, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Philippine national squad encountered early difficulties as they were only leading by four points heading into the second quarter. Off the bench, Japeth Aguilar scored 15 of his 23 points in the first half as Thailand did not have an answer for the Ginebra star forward.
Calvin Abueva remained consistent with his production as he added 15 points, six assists, and two steals while Terrence Romeo and Andray Blatche each had 11 points for Gilas.
Thailand’s best player was Teerawat Chanthachon who had 16 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
Gilas Pilipinas will face Vietnam next while Thailand will battle with Singapore – both games will be played on Wednesday, May 17 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
