Cubao, Quezon City – Gilas Pilipinas makes a statement in their first game by whipping Myanmar, 147-40, in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Calvin Abueva led the Gilas attack with 22 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals as he bagged the best player of the game honors.
Allein Maliksi was the second best scorer with 20 points to go along with five boards and three steals and Jiovani Jalalon made most of his minutes on the floor with a double-double of 13 points and ten dimes in just below eighteen minutes of playing time.
In a valiant effort, Myanmar was led by Aung Wana who scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds.
Gilas Pilipinas will be facing Singapore on Saturday, May 13 while Myanmar will try to bounce back against Vietnam on Monday, May 14.
