SEATTLE, WA (Eagle News) – This past Sunday showcased one of the greatest games of the 2017 season thus far as the experienced, battled-tested quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks, Russell Wilson, was pitted against the up-and-coming and immensely talented quarterback, Deshaun Watson, of the Houston Texans (3-4).
This match-up was on full display as each of the respective quarterbacks led their offenses down the field on each possession, seeming to score at ease with each minute that ticked off of the clock.
Watson began the day hitting speedy wide receiver Will Fuller V for a 59-yard bomb. Fuller was able to beat the Seahawks secondary before falling into the end zone for the score.
After being unsuccessful on their first offensive drive, the Seahawks (5-2) defense took over as Earl Thomas III picked off a pass by Watson, taking it back 78-yards for the score to tie it 7-7.
Russell Wilson’s first touchdown came later in the first quarter off of a scrambling-then-pass to Paul Richardson in the end zone for a 20-yard score.
As the first-round pick out of the University of Clemson, Watson further showcased his complete arsenal of skills throughout the first half of play, hitting Fuller for another touchdown that went for 20-yards.
In the 4th quarter, Watson avoided immense pressure coming from Seattle’s vaunted defensive line as he completed yet another touchdown pass to running back Lamar Miller putting the Seahawks up 31-27.
With 5:37 to play in the game, Wilson executed a play-action-fake to the running back before finding tight end Jimmy Graham in the corner of the end zone getting them past the Texans 34-31.
On the next possession, Watson’s pitch-pass to Deandre Hopkins proved perfect, as he steam rolled past the numerous missed-tackles by the Seahawks to score from 72-yards out, giving them a four-point lead with only 4:49 remaining in the game.
Wilson’s poise within the pocket proved valuable as he was able to guide the offense throughout the “2-minute Drill,” hitting slot receiver Tyler Locket down the middle for a huge gain. On the very next play, Wilson rifled a pass to Graham for a 20-yard down-the-middle connection for his second score of the game.
With just seconds remaining, Watson was sacked for a fifteen-yard loss before throwing a game sealing interception to defender Richard Sherman who secured his second interception of the game.
The game was held at CenturyLink Field: “Home of the 12th Man.”
