The Binays were not around to contend against the new allegations against them, with Vice President Jejomar Binay saying that he’d rather work than be involved in politics. His son, Mayor Junjun Binay meanwhile challenged the jurisdiction of the said sub-committee.
The Binays were not around to refute the fresh allegations against them.
Vice president Jejomar Binay declined the subcommittee’s invitation to appear before it.
Mayor Erwin “Junjun” Binay, on the other hand, questioned the jurisdiction of the body to pursue the investigation on the alleged overpriced Makati car park building.
The Vice President’s spokesman, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, said Binay declined the invitation because he wanted to work and not to get into politics.
For his part, the young Binay argued that senators who conducted the hearing have already prejudged him and his family. He claimed that he had been maligned by the senators when he appeared before the subcommittee.
But Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano noted that even Makati officials invited to the hearing did not show up either. He warned that the senate could arrest any person who will not comply with its subpoena.
Cayetano reminded everyone that this was part of the power of Congress and that this should not be ignored by the mayor.
