(Eagle News) — Senator Grace Poe said she believes that the Department of Justice should focus its attention on other more important cases instead of giving attention to issues involving the “illegal detention” complaint against leaders of the Iglesia Ni Cristo.
Poe also said that the INC members have a right to defend their religion and beliefs.
“Huwag nating mamaliitin ang importansya ng relihiyon,” Poe told reporters on Friday.
Poe cited the Mamasapano case as one example of cases needing the DOJ’s attention.
The DOJ’s full investigation into the incident has not yet been released. The DOJ has not yet filed a complaint against those responsible for the deaths of the 44 members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) in Mamasapano, Maguindanao seven months ago.
On Tuesday, former soldiers and police officers said that De Lima’s failure to file the murder charges against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in connection to the Mamasapano massacre would hound her senatorial run in 2016.
The former soldiers and police officers who are now lawmakers said that the Mamasapano issue would be De Lima’s unfinished business.
Former police director ACT CIS Rep. Samuel Pagdilao said De Lima had promised to file the charges in April.
