Senate approves resolution against playing of De Lima ‘sex tape’

(Eagle News)– The Senate on Tuesday (October 4) unanimously approved Resolution No. 184 that opposes the showing of alleged sex video of Senator Leila De Lima in the House inquiry on the proliferation of illegal drugs inside New Bilibid Prison.

The senators argued that playing the video will violate the Anti-Photo or Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 and the Wiretapping Law.

In her privilege speech, Senator Risa Hontiveros– one of the principal sponsors of the resolution– said the decision addresses the misogynistic views that pervade in the political scene in the country.

“If we stand by in silence while our colleagues in the House perpetrate this indignity against a fellow senator, we have chosen vulgarity over civility, misogyny over basic respect and decency,”said Hontiveros.

Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel said the alleged sex tape does not exist.

“Actually, I believe that there is no video. There is no actual video. Some have shown me a video but it does not involve any member of the Senate. It is a sex video but it does not involve a member of the Senate,” Pimentel said.
