Senate panel summons Faeldon to BoC “tara” hearing anew; lawyer says he “doubt(s)” his client will attend

(Eagle News) — The Senate blue ribbon committee has once again summoned former Customs Chief Nicanor Faeldon to its hearing on corruption in the Bureau of Customs.

But his lawyer, Jose Diño, has said he doubted his client would attend the hearing slated on Monday, January 29.

“He will maintain, I think, his right to his personal dignity, specifically his right not be browbeaten (again) with hopelessly, unprovable, and garbage allegations,” Diño said.

Faeldon, who is now the deputy administrator of the Office of the Civil Defense, remains in Senate detention after he was cited in contempt in September 2017 for his refusal to attend subsequent hearings on the “tara” system in the BoC and on the P6.4-billion shabu shipment mess.

The Senate blue ribbon committee headed by Senator Richard Gordon, however, approved Faeldon’s temporary release only recently so he could take his oath as deputy administrator, undergo a check-up, and see the birth of his new child.
