Senate probe on Dengvaxia procurement by Aquino administration set on Monday; Ombudsman probe also urged

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — Senator Richard Gordon, Chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, said that anomalies surrounding the procurement of Dengvaxia vaccine would be revealed in the Committee’s hearing on Monday, December 11.

Senator Gordon also called on the Office of the Ombudsman to also conduct its own investigation in the controversial procurement of the  dengue vaccine “Dengvaxia” done during the Aquino administration because the lives of thousands of children have been put at risk

Dahil diyan lalabas ang maraming kaso na negligence, recklessness imprudence lalabas diyan and even outright, talagang homicide, multiple homicide diyan kung maraming mamamatay,” Gordon said.

At siyempre, magkakaroon ng role ang Ombudsman dahil talagang lalabas na minadali, sinalamangka ‘yung pera, nilipat ‘yung pera sa ibang lugar na hindi dumaan sa Kongreso,” he said.

Gordon is confident that former Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial will also provide all the information that she knows on the issue.

The senator said that the procurement of Dengvaxia was obviously fast-tracked.  He said former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, former Health Secretary Janet Garin and other officials of the Department of Health should be held liable.
