(Eagle News) — Starting Monday, June 18, Senate employees have begun using 15 modernized jeepneys from the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The launching of modernized jeepneys was part of the department’s program under Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).
The routes approved by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will be operated by the Senate Employees Service Cooperative (SETSCO).
SETSCO is one of the three pre-selected cooperatives in the initial implementation of the government’s PUV modernization program (PUVMP).
The modernized jeepneys will start its route from from the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP, fronting Star City) via Atang Dela Rama St. to Diokno Blvd. passing GSIS and the Senate, Earth Globe-Mall of Asia, up to the almost finished Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), then back via Macapagal Ave. passing the Department of Foreign Affairs-Aseana, right turn to EDSA taking a U-turn before reaching Roxas Blvd., then to MOA (Mall of Asia Arena), right turn to Diokno Blvd. towards the CCP terminal.
Those who will ride these modern jeepneys will pay a higher fare than those riding the traditional old jeepneys plying the same routes. This is because the new PUVs are equipped with global positioning systems (GPS) closed-circuit television (CCTV), Wi-Fi and air-conditioning.
