(Eagle News) — Senator Bam Aquino questioned what he said was the Department of Budget and Management’s move to cut the Department of Education’s budget for the construction of classrooms.
According to Aquino, from the original P116 billion, this was slashed to “just” P10.2 billion.
He said the new amount can only allow for the construction of 4,000 classrooms, a far cry from the 47,000 classrooms the DepEd could have supposedly built for 2019 with the original amount.
Meanwhile, Aquino said the DepEd needs an additional P1 billion for the repair of classrooms destroyed by Typhoon “Ompong.”
