The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) second division has disqualified Senator Grace Poe from the 2016 presidential race. Senator Francis Escudero, Poe’s running mate in next year’s polls, confirmed Tuesday (December 1) the COMELEC’S decision.
Escudero said the second division favored the petition filed by lawyer Estrella Elamparo, stating that Poe had failed to meet the 10-year residency requirement of presidential candidates.
The poll body division asserted that Poe became a resident only in July 2006 when she applied for dual citizenship.
Escudero said they will appeal the decision with the COMELEC En Banc. (Eagle News Service)
