Senator Trillanes may face ethics complaint for “disrespectful, unparliamentary” remarks

(Eagle News) — Senator Antonio Trillanes IV may face an ethics complaint in the Senate after he issued what his colleague said were “disrespectful and unparliamentary” comments.

“Maybe it is high time that we refer to the Senate ethics committee Senator Trillanes’ actions since he is becoming damaging to the institution and becoming damaging to the country,” Senator JV Ejercito said in a statement on Tuesday.

Ejercito was referring to Trillanes’ “disrespectful and unparliamentary” comments about the senators, whom he called “puppets of this administration.”

He also called the Senate a “rubberstamp” of Malacañang.

“He should be reminded that as a democratic institution, we in the Senate debate issues instead of hurling insults; we vote instead of calling each other names when we disagree,” he said.

He said there were 23 “independent minds duly elected in the Senate” who “maintain respect for one another” even in disagreement.

“I hope Senator Trillanes would do the same. I hope he will stop destroying this institution simply because he is rabidly against this administration,” Ejercito said.
