(Eagle News) — Senator Cynthia Villar on Friday clarified that she was not planning on enacting a law banning unlimited rice offerings in food establishments.
“I just voiced out my concern that eating too much rice is one of the main causes of high blood sugar that leads to diabetes,” she said.
She said she “cannot prevent people from eating (an) unlimited amount of rice.”
“It is their choice. It was just a genuine expression of concern on my part,” she said.
Villar earlier stressed the negative health effects of too much rice intake, adding with a smile that unlimited rice offerings in food establishments should be banned.
The senator made the statement during a Senate committee on agriculture hearing about plans to import more rice from other countries.
