Sereno camp asks SC for more time to answer accusation of sub judice rule violation vs her

(Eagle News)—The camp of Maria Lourdes Sereno has asked the Supreme Court to give her more time to answer the show-cause order issued against her for violation of the sub judice rule.

In their motion filed on Friday, May 25, Sereno’s camp asked they be given 15 more days to respond, or until June 9.

On May 11, apart from giving Sereno 10 days from receipt of notice to explain why she should not be sanctioned for  “transgressing the sub Judice rule and for casting aspersions and ill motives to the members of the Supreme Court,” the Supreme Court also nullified her appointment as Chief Justice, with a vote of 8-6.

The nullification was based on a quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida against her.

Sereno, who has been making the rounds in the academe mostly to talk about her plight since she was on official leave on March 1,  has said she would  appeal the High Court order nullifying her appointment on the basis she lacked integrity for her non-failure of complete Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.
