Sereno: De Castro said she would never forgive me for accepting CJ post

(Eagle News)–“I will never forgive you.”

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno said this was what Associate Justice Teresita de Castro told her when she accepted the top magistrate post in 2012.

Speaking before an event organized by the Movement Against Tyranny, Sereno said De Castro, her senior who applied for the same position,  even told her that “You should not even have applied in the first place.”

According to Sereno, when she tried to mend her relationship with the other justices after she issued dissenting opinions in some issues, “karamihan sa kanila ay nagsabing sige, magko-cooperate tayo” except for De Castro.

Sereno has asked De Castro to inhibit from the quo warranto case filed against the chief justice, citing the justice’s alleged bias and animosity toward her.

Apart from De Castro, Sereno has asked Associate Justices Noel Tijam, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin and  Francis Jardeleza to inhibit citing the same reasons.

An impeachment complaint has also been filed against Sereno, who has been on leave since March 1.
