Based on initial results, there were no irregularities in 2016 elections, tribunal rules
(Eagle News) — The Senate Electoral Tribunal has dismissed the electoral protest filed by Francis Tolentino against Senator Leila de Lima, following his motion to withdraw the same in light of his campaign for the May 2019 elections, where he is running for senator.
In a resolution dated Feb. 21, and which was released on April 4, the SET also granted De Lima’s request to release the initial results of the poll recount , and concluded based on these that there were no irregularities in the 2016 elections.
The recount covered 319,228 ballots from 654 clustered precincts.
“The results negated his allegations that pre-loaded SD cards were used or that his votes were not counted,” the SET said.
Tolentino, who landed 13th in the 2016 senatorial elections behind De Lima, filed the electoral protest in June 2016.
