WASHINGTON D.C., (Eagle News) – Seven thousand pairs of shoes were placed on the United States Capitol lawn by activist group Avaaz early Tuesday morning to represent the lives lost by gun violence in schools since the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting.
“Behind me are seven thousand empty pairs of shoes that represent the kids who have been killed by gun violence since Sandy Hook in 2012,” said Emma Ruby-Sachs, Avaaz representative. “It’s at the foot of Congress because it’s bringing the real human costs of this gun violence to the door step of our lawmakers.”
“It’s crazy to think that it happened so much,” Katie Ericson, a student, said concerning gun violence in schools, “and that many kids have been killed by it.”
