(Eagle News) — Severe Tropical Storm “Nanmadol” may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight or tomorrow morning.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, once inside PAR, it will be given the domestic name “Josie.”
The weather bureau said so far, “Nanmadol” was located 1,760 km east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.
It’s packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kph near the center and a gustiness of up to 135 kph.
PAGASA said that while the severe tropical storm is forecast to not directly affect the weather condition in the country, the southwest monsoon it enhances will bring monsoon rains over the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in the next 24 hours.
The enhancement of the southwest monsoon may also bring gusty conditions (especially in the coastal and mountainous/upland areas) over Visayas, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and the northern and western portions of Mindanao.
“Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to continue monitoring for updates related to this tropical cyclone,” PAGASA said.
