MAY 29 (Reuters) — After six Grammy nominations, several hit songs and numerous sold out concerts, singer Ed Sheeran donated three hours to Madame Tussuads sculptors who worked to create his likeness, which was revealed on Thursday (May 28) in New York.
“They put you in grey underwear and a grey vest. And you stand there for two hours while strangers poke you. And hopefully it comes out looking alright,” Sheeran said of the customary sitting.
After the reveal, the English singer summed up his thoughts with four words: “So fucking weird man.”
Before adding, “They even got my lazy eye in.”
Over 250 measurements were taken during the sitting, which included matching his eye and hair color and tattoos exactly.
The team of artists were treated to a special concert by Sheeran during the sitting.
“He actually played a song on his guitar for the studio artists that were taking the measurements that day, it was really cool,” said General Manager Bret Pidgeon.
The 24-year-old is best known for his hit songs “Sing,” “Don’t” and “Thinking Out Loud” and is currently on a headlining tour.
Sheeran’s figure will be a part of the attraction’s collection of music stars and is styled in clothes gifted by the singer.
“The clothes Ed Sheeran’s figure is wearing has been donated by Ed Sheeran, all the way down to the socks that he’s wearing. And the guitar is a Martin guitar that he donated as well. So we’re really excited to be able to feature that in the attraction,” said Pidgeon.
During the unveiling Sheeran said this was his first time to Madame Tussauds and is excited to see what his parents think of the figure.
“I think it will be quite weird for me, but I think it will be cool seeing what my own parents created.” Sheeran will be in the New York area until May 31 for several concerts. (New York, USA)
