Sison says he has “reason to be optimistic” about resumption of peace talks

(Eagle News)–National Democratic Front of the Philippines chief political consultant Jose Maria Sison said he “has a “reason to be optimistic” about the resumption of peace talks.

He said this was “on the basis of the hard and productive work that the panels have already done in the form of back that the panels have already done in the form of back channel consultations, consensus building and bilateral drafting, unless the Duterte regime is once more backtracking.”

Sison made the comment after an angry President Rodrigo Duterte slammed him in a speech on Thursday, May 24.

If nothing happens in the two months Sison was here supposedly to talk, “I will allow him to go out. I will not arrest him because word of honor ‘yan,” the President said.

“But sabihin ko talaga sa kanya, ‘P— ina mo, huwag ka na bumalik dito. Papatayin talaga kita,” he added.

The President has asked his Cabinet members to work toward the resumption of peace talks.

He, however, said the rebels should not push for a coalition government, demand revolutionary taxes, and should be restricted to their camps, among others.
