A small plane crashed on Tuesday (October 11) on a street in East Hartford, Connecticut, with the pilot injured and a passenger unaccounted for, police said.
“There were two occupants of that aircraft, one of which was transported to the hospital, the second is unaccounted for at this time,” said East Hartford Police sergeant Joshua Litwin.
Litwin said the plane had taken off from Hartford-Brainard Airport but he didn’t know why the plane came down.
Frank Crandall, who works in the area, said he had just left his job in a car when he saw the crash happen.
“I was driving and all of a sudden I saw a plane coming in to my right side, really low and I knew he wasn’t going to make it. I stopped and at that point I saw the plane come down, hit the wires, then hit a pole, then he smashed into the ground in front of a van,” said Scrandall.
Television footage showed the plane in pieces on the ground and wires and telephone poles knocked down in the area.
Further details were not immediately available.
