SOJ Aguirre supports Napoles’ detention transfer bid

(Eagle News)– Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Thursday (May 11) expressed his support for the request of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Napoles to be transferred to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Detention Center.

“I am inclined to grant it,” Aguirre said.

“She is no longer a convicted prisoner so dapat alisin na siya BuCor (Bureau of Correction) facility,” he added.

Napoles’ counsel, Atty. Stephen David, said they wanted Napoles to be transeferred to NBI for her to participate as potential witness in Department of Justice’s (DOJ) planned reinvestigation of the pork barrel scam.

David said another reason why they want Napoles’ transfer is due to alleged death threats.

Napoles has been detained at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City following her conviction by a Makati City court in the serious illegal detention case involving her former aide and relative Benhur Luy.

The Court of Appeals granted Napoles’ appeal to dismiss the serious illegal detention case filed against her by her second cousin Benhur Luy, and ordered her immediate release from detention.   But she will remain in detention because of her pending plunder and graft cases in connection with the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam.
